| Karsten Heronsball Ref: KR1 East German Made Steam Powered Heron Ball. This toy steam engine is modeled in concept after what is believed to be the first steam engine developed by Heron of Alexandria. Heron called his invention an aeolipile, or "wind ball". Heron's design is a sealed caldron of water that is placed over a heat source. As the water boiled, steam rose into the pipes and into the hollow sphere. The steam escaped from two bent outlet tubes on the ball, resulting in rotation of the ball. Size: 3.75" X 3.75" X 6.5"
