Anodized Blue Aluminum

The anodized blue plates make a nice contrast to the stainless steel screws, which creates a nice technical accent to the engine's appearance.

The blue color absorbs radiated heat (i.e. from a lamp), which helps the engine to run at low temperatures.
The temperature differential for the engine to run is approximately 15 degC or even less.

Also, the anodizes surface is less subject to possible scratches, because it is harder than unprotected aluminum.

Polished Stainless Steel

This model is made from polished stainless steel.

Due to the higher strength of steel opposed to aluminum a thinner gauge of material was selected. Therefore the ability to conduct heat remains just as good as with our anodized aluminum model although this material reflects some radiation and aluminum is a better heat conductor. The temperature differential for the engine to run is approximately 15 deg C or even less.

The upper plate is made from acrylic glass allowing sunlight or the light from a lamp to heat up the black upper side of the displacer piston. Therefore the internal air is heated to allow the engine to work according to the Stirling principle.
