Wilesco Traction Engines

This nostalgic lorry with remote control is a scaled model of a lorry series which dates from 1915. At that time the transport of goods with such vehicles was more easygoing and had nothing to do with today’s just-in-time-deliveries. This historical platform lorry is equipped with a real functioning steam engine. The boiler and the double acting cylinder are placed in the driver’s cab. The roof of the cab can be removed to fill the upright boiler with water. The burner slide is located between the wheels of the front axle. The steering mechanism with remote control is placed on the bottom of the lorry. The wooden platform can be discharged manually.

The showman's engine can be run in forward or reverse depending on the movement of the flywheel. The Wilesco Model D 305 steam driven Fire Truck is based on an original which was produced by Magirus in Germany at the beginning of the last century. The Fire engine is operated by the steam engine. it can be driven forward and reverse. The speed is regulated by using the speed control valve. Further details: Vertical mirror polished brass boiler, diameter 3.2", height 5.9", boiler capacity 27.5 in?, elongated gauge glass. Single boiler flue with a diameter of .8" built into the boiler to improve efficiency and for the escape of steam exhaust. Safety flue attachment. Vertical reversible double action brass cylinder. Flywheel with a diameter of 3.2", spring loaded safety valve, steam whistle with chain, steam regulator, gathering tray for condensed water, die cast wheels with solid rubber tires, wooden seats, fire bell. Two lacquered die cast lamps, steering wheel for the front wheels. Clutch engaged gear transmission with chain drive to the rear axle. When the fire engine is stationary and the clutch is disengaged the water pump can be operated. The water tank is under the front seat, with hose leading to the pump. Squirts up to 9.8 ft. This Wilesco D 430 locomobile was used around the turn of the century by farmers for threshing and plowing. it was horse drawn but was also frequently self propelled and was capable of moving under its own steam at speeds of 1.5 to 2.5 miles per hour. This sophisticated steam model has a wealth of technical details and it looks good too in its livery of black combined with brass. Technical details: Brass boiler diameter 2.2", length 9.1". This engine has a partitioned smoke chamber at the front for the condensation and to allow the smoke to escape through the chimney, which is hinged in the middle. The sight glass acts as a water gauge. Reversible double action cylinder with two flywheels with a diameter of 3.2" which can be operated in forward and reverse. Exact indicating pressure gauge, spring loaded safety valve, whistle with chain, governor (just for show), steam regulator, steam jet oiler, water drain tap, black varnished boiler house with gangways and ladder. The Wilesco locomobile is driven by a chain and the front axle can be steered. Operating time approx. 15 minutes. The model is heated by dry spirit tablets. All parts are either painted or plated. Esbit fuel tablets differ from most other solid fuel tablets in that they are non-toxic and completely consume themselves when burned. Most other fuel tablets leave a toxic residue behind. The manufacturer states that Esbit fuel tabs can be safely burned inside a properly ventilated room. They are very small and extremely light weight. They burn for about 15 minutes and are a great toy steam engine fuel.

Sold by the box. One box contains 20 tablets 4 grams each. Shown in picture is one CASE of esbit which contains 36 boxes.
